That's because those businesses use multiple copy sales drafts, which require the customer's signature. That gives employees and potentially others access to not only your credit card number but to your signature as well.

 
How is My Credit Card Information Protected?

The data collected by a merchant in an Internet transaction is encrypted by your browser before it ever leaves your computer. That first level of encryption, (or browser-level encryption) is called the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). With SSL, data is broken in to smaller pieces of data called bit keys before being passed to the credit card processor. The higher the number of bits in a code, the harder the code is to crack. This technology is compatible with Netscape Navigator version 2.0 and above, Microsoft Explorer version 3.0 and above and AOL version 3.0 and above. Only an authorized processor can convert this information to complete the transaction.

In addition to encryption, Custom Care Package uses additional tools to prevent fraud including the Address Verification System (AVS). The AVS system verifies that the billing address provided by a consumer matches that of the card holder. This helps us protect you as well as ourselves by making sure only you use your credit card.
